ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, affects thousands each year, but the true impact extends far beyond the diagnosis.
This intimate documentary offers a raw and honest glimpse into the life of a devoted wife navigating her husband's terminal illness. Through her eyes, we witness the emotional toll, quiet resilience, and unwavering love that define their journey. More than a medical story, this is a testament to the strength of the human spirit, and the power of hope in the face of a heartbreaking reality.

Together with ALS: A Wife’s Perspective
(24:52 Filmed in Arizona)
I was hired to tell this story because so many existing ALS documentaries catered to a world of wealth and privilege, not to the everyday families quietly facing this devastating disease. Together with ALS: A Wife’s Perspective is my response to that silence. It’s a film for the people, for the caregivers, the spouses, the children who show up daily, without accolades, and without a roadmap.
Filmed in Arizona, the documentary follows one woman’s journey as the primary caregiver for her husband, who was diagnosed with ALS. Through deeply personal interviews with their family, we explore the emotional, physical, and spiritual toll this disease takes and the extraordinary grace with which they chose to face it.
One of the greatest challenges in production was capturing the voice of the man living with ALS, as the disease had already impacted his ability to speak clearly. To honor his words and ensure his story was understood, we used captions throughout his interviews. His courage in sharing even in his final days, left an indelible impact on me. Despite his condition, he consistently thought of others, opening his heart fully so that others might learn, prepare, and find comfort in his journey.
This film isn’t just about ALS. It’s about how families rise.
It’s about resilience, love, and navigating terminal illness with clarity, humor, honesty, and connection. Our hope is that viewers will walk away feeling that, no matter what diagnosis a loved one may receive, there are steps, grounded, compassionate, human steps, that can make the journey more bearable and meaningful.
This story changed me. I believe it will touch others, too.
Mahalo for considering our film.
