Director Statement
After 20 years of dreaming and trying to make a feature, I found out my wife was pregnant and finally snapped into action. I wrote a no-budget script and formed a team of family and friends. Production was six days. I had two crew members: my pregnant wife and her brother, neither had ever stepped foot on a film set. Two of the four actors had no prior acting experience. We had a single location: our only set and lodging for the entire cast and crew.
I made the film for my son, so that he’d have a glimpse into his father's lifelong passion. I did not expect production to be my first time experiencing lighting in a bottle. We made a remarkably funny, touching, and utterly unique cinematic gem. I truly believe its innovative style, standout performances, and cultural relevance will make The Big Break a modern classic.
