Together on the shore, we ache for something
Together on the shore, we ache for something
What? Is the question, like contests of Will
One ever know the shape of two other
Questions why? Why? Is one we ask at the gate
Two questions, one answer is existence
Do I exist to you, with you, for you? Hope
The candle burns deep in how? I am to you
And you to me, what is the meaning of two?
Souls, is it one soul plus one, half a sandwich?
Like two breads and the connection-mayo makes a pair
So juicy of halves conditioned. A puzzle
What is one and two? We ask the question
In the grove beyond the sea, where the distance
Defies our questions, but not the shape of why?
Together on the shore, we ache for something
What? Is the question, like contest of will
One ever know the shape of two other
Questions why? Why? Is one we ask in debate
together on the shore we ache for something
What? Is the question, a lighthouse to show
Us The Way of longings, of aches, of boards, of creaking
Of last memories before our long-ago deaths
We die many times in a lifetime, the question is
How? We keep on going

From writer: This is an echo verse poem in response to my identical twin’s death (drowning). Identical in virtually every way as children, we grew to look different as adults, but our voices remained identical. We were echoes of each other....
