POEM:
Loving in a Constellation
The realization came at the end of high school,
the time you or I begin to question our beliefs,
or at least start trying.
Her romantic love and energy
could extend to more than one person,
within and past state borders, across time zones,
even to scattered continents.
She learned she could live alone in her own world,
or in alignment with one person’s world,
but both felt like an unnatural gravity—
pulling her into a single orbit.
Why settle for discomfort and compromise,
when other parts of life already provide plenty?
She chose instead to live in a constellation,
loving more than one planet,
making her world go ’round—
in harmony.
