In the 2050s, humans launch the UERNE Project to explore the Earth’s center. Due to an unexpected accident, geocentric scientist Lydia—the sole occupant of the craft—is trapped underground forever. She communicates with the surface through “The Eye,” a special device that allows her to see and hear what happens above; astronauts also use the same system in space.
