In a shifting, unstable world, a woman is led forward by a shadow. Bound and freezing, she stumbles, resists, and is repeatedly struck down. When the shadow fractures into countless gazes, she tears the ice from her own body, revealing the fire beneath. Each fall leaves behind red traces that gather into a vast sea of bodies. From this accumulated presence, she rises once more, breaks through the barrier above, and dives into a red-black ocean.

Director Statement
Red is a paper-drawn animated film about a woman resisting oppression and reclaiming her power, dignity, and voice through pain and struggle. The film moves toward a vision of harmony between genders, but also stresses that under unequal power structures, women must fight to claim their place before equality can truly exist.
I completed this film entirely on my own over the course of one year, despite not having formal training in animation. The paper-drawn process was demanding and time-consuming, but it became essential to the film’s emotional texture. I feel fortunate to have challenged myself in this way during university, turning passion into a finished work. I also hope more films from women’s perspectives can continue to contribute to gender equality.
