Remember to Write Me, 13min., USA
Directed by Yannie Yiyang Gu
"Remember to Write Me" is a short film that traces the love story between my grandparents, who maintained their relationship through a decade-long separation from 1969 to 1979 caused by Cultural Revolution, a traumatic historical and social upheaval that happened in China. They kept a promise to write each other every week until their final reunion. The film uses five selected and narrated letters, voice-overs, archival materials, and footage of their daily life to observe my grandparents’ enduring connection as a form of spiritual refuge sustained across distance, time and historical rupture.
