1944, Germany. The Kaya family is torn apart whilst fleeing the war. The only one left is their youngest child, Kerim. He keeps his father’s last promise: he speaks to no one. He witnesses the concentration camps, the massacres, the annihilation of his family; yet he utters not a single word. His silence is the true language of war. Nine languages are spoken in the film. The only one who does not speak is Kerim. Years later, when he breaks his silence at a peace conference, the world falls silent.
