Director Statement
Storm is my master's thesis film at USC animation. However, before I started making Storm, I had prepared three other stories for the thesis, each with completed animatics and sound. But in the end, I decided to create Storm because, compared to the other stories, this particular story offers me themes that are following today’s world to explore and a larger space for thoughts. It is not just a movie for me, it is my thought process about this ever-changing world's rules and behaviors.
Storm tells the story of fragmented moments on a fictional battlefield that spans vast amounts of time and space: letters blowing in the dust, combatants' faces, hysterical charges, metroplis covered in rain, and Hallucinations in the eyes of weary soldiers.
Soldiers who have been long at war are waiting for the next order. The peaceful past and hope for the future fill their bombarded, exhausted brains. In their sored eyes, bombers turning into white doves and explosions into blooming flowers. The soldier looks at these fleeting illusions coldly. He knows that the appearance of these symbols of beauty and hope has not made the world better but has instead become accomplices in covering up the destructions. However, he can only accept everything and continue silently waiting for the next attack.
