WILDsound Feature Film Showcase: RESLIENT GENIUS. July 9/10 event
40s
Resilient Genius gives voice to children and
youth affected by war, conflict, and political
unrest. 13 children and youth immerse us in
memories of Syria, Ethiopia, Ukraine, Rwanda,
Afghanistan and Iraq, reflecting on their lives
before, during, and after experiences of violence.
Their raw recollections, expressions of wisdom
and transformative acts provide a powerful call
to action.
Director Statement
This is an immersive film where children and youth in Canada invite us into their homes and recall their experiences of war and conflict in their countries of origin. We rarely get the opportunity to hear children share memories so candidly, and we hope this film can shine a light on experiences that are often unheard of and overlooked. In this time when our world is filled with so much unrest, Resilient Genius contains a message that needs to be heard worldwide. By elevating the voices of these children and youth, I hope to spark compassion and understanding for those who live beside us and have experienced this devastation. Ultimately, this film reminds us that every voice deserves to be heard, is a testament to the human spirit and the unwavering resilience of children, and I believe it is a film that speaks to our shared humanity.
