Pigments is accompanied by a short film that features the dance students of New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) and was helmed by Richard and her longtime collaborator Monty Marsh. For her directorial debut, Richard intentionally casted students who had builds, skin tones, or hairstyles that might seem “unconventional” to most prestigious dance companies. She then allowed each dancer to select the piece that spoke most to them, and filmed their performances with an all-local crew.
