Get to know the writer:
1. What is your screenplay about?
My screenplay is about two siblings facing the aftermath of their friend returning to their campsite but without his body intact. It also quickly shows the relationship between the twin siblings and how violent the main antagonist can be.
2. What genres does your screenplay fall under?
My screenplay falls under the horror genre.
3. Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?
Even though it is only a minute long, I believe my screenplay has a complete beginning, middle and an end that would keep viewers entertained.
4. How would you describe this script in two words?
Gruesome and relatable.
5. What movie have you seen the most times in your life?
I don't know about the most times but I have watched The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie a lot. I had it on VHS when I was a kid and I would also catch it whenever it came on cable.
6. How long have you been working on this screenplay?
I've had the idea for a few years or so but it only took me a day or two to actually write the screenplay.
7. How many stories have you written?
English has always been my favorite subject in school, I was constantly writing stories whether it be short stories, screenplays, etc. so I don't have an exact number but I currently have 8 scripts on FilmFreeway and 13 on Coverfly. I've also written over 10 scripts for my animated series inspired by the Golden Girls.
8. What is your favorite song? (Or, what song have you listened to the
most times in your life?)
I don't have an all time favorite song but the current song I have on repeat is Always by Daniel Caesar. I'm going through a heartbreak right now and this song explains exactly how I feel in all of its lyrics. Daniel Caesar - Always (Lyrics) - YouTube
9. What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?
The biggest obstacle of writing a one-minute screenplay is to actually get it all on one page only. I had to be very precise with the characters and the choices they made and even their dialogue. I had to write out the whole script as I had envisioned it in my head. It came out to over one page, so the next hard step is to "kill my darlings" which is to cut out any unnecessary words or lines, replacing them with shorter sentences or even just one word in the hopes that my story will still be fully told the way I envisioned it in the first place but just shorter.
10. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
I love helping people. I don't do it for thank yous or any kind of recognition for others. It's just the kindness in me and I like to make sure people are ok even if it's just for a day or any other short period of time. One of my hopes is to excel in my writing career so that it will give me the ability to do more for others than I already do. I have a lot of loved ones that I want to look out for.
11. You entered your screenplay via FilmFreeway. What has been your
experiences working with the submission platform site?
I love FilmFreeway. It's very user friendly and a great way to gain some exposure. I made it as a finalist for the very first time in March of 2023 in a horror film festival. In the end, I didn't win but sometime later a director read my work and personally reached out to me to submit my short screenplay to his own horror festival. I felt encouraged to always submit my work because I'll never fully know who's watching and reading my scripts and what it will lead to. For this, I thank FilmFreeway for being a helpful platform for my projects.
12. What influenced you to enter the festival? What were your feelings
on the initial feedback you received?
I had received an email promoting the festival. I had recently gotten into writing one-minute screenplays so when the festival called for that specific length I thought this was my chance to get my work out there. I am proud to have done it and I am proud of the outcome.
