Get to know the writer:
1. What is your screenplay about?
This is a story about how imposter syndrome can affect a person's sense of worth.
A person who is filled with self-doubt is standing in front of the mirror and their reflection represents imposter syndrome. The reflection is admonishing the person with relish but then changes its tune when it realises the latter is going to get help.
2. What genres does your screenplay fall under?
This is a drama.
3. Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?
I think many people can relate to this story. I think we can all get lost in self-doubt and really wonder we're good enough to pursue our hopes and dreams. To people who have suffered imposter syndrome or are struggling with it my message is that you are not alone.
4. How would you describe this script in two words?
5. What movie have you seen the most times in your life?
Batman Begins and The Crow are movies that I recall watching frequently.
6. How long have you been working on this screenplay?
The short story is that it took me an afternoon to write this screenplay.
The longer story is that I was in a very bad place but by being there and realising that I needed to do something about it I found a sense of clarity as to how to move forward. The screenplay is a document of what I was feeling at that moment in time.
7. How many stories have you written?
I've written a few from children's cartoons to comedies to dramas.
Schrodinger's Cat - Intergalactic Super Spy is a short cartoon I created and it has featured in animation festivals around the world.
8. What is your favorite song? (Or, what song have you listened to the
most times in your life?)
I love "Servo" by The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
9. What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?
I think the biggest obstacle was allowing myself to display my vulnerability to others. This screenplay cuts close to the bone and draws from difficult personal experiences.
10. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
I really enjoy sports, video games, cooking, travelling, reading, animation, and music. I guess the common thread that links all those together are stories, I love a good story.
11. What influenced you to enter the festival?
I saw the 1pg Screenplay Contest as an outlet to express how I was feeling and write a story about it. When I received the 1pg Screenplay Contest, it provided the inspiration to write this story. Lots of people deal with imposter syndrome and I want to say to them that they are not alone.
