In a small apartment supported by community funds, a brother and sister in their eighties live quietly on the margins of society. He has an intellectual disability. She lives with a severe physical disability. Together, they depend on each other to get through each day.
This observational documentary stays close to their daily life — cooking, cleaning, managing money, asking for help. Outside, most people pass them without notice. Inside their home, their world is full of small needs, private wishes, frustrations, and moments of tenderness.
The film explores what it takes for them to express a desire, to ask for something more than basic survival, and how much of those desires are actually fulfilled. Without commentary or judgement, the camera simply observes lives that are often unseen.
Director Statement
I have always been drawn to stories that feel raw, honest, and close to real life. Hasarat (Desire) came from my interest in observing people whose lives often remain unseen, but whose emotions, struggles, and wishes are deeply human.
Through this documentary, I wanted to stay close to Gaffar and Fareeda’s everyday life without forcing judgement or explanation. Their small apartment becomes a world of dependence, tenderness, frustration, and quiet hope. The film observes how desire exists even in the most difficult conditions — the desire to be heard, to be cared for, and to live with dignity.
Making this film helped me understand the power of organic storytelling. I wanted the camera to simply witness their reality, allowing the audience to feel their presence and reflect on lives that society often passes by without notice.
