VULTURES, 12min., USA, Experimental
Directed by Daniel Denegre
At the end of a dying world, two scavengers are running out of options. When they find a way out, one doesn't hesitate to take what she can. But when faced with her victim, she has to decide if her survival is what’s most important.
Director Biography - Daniel Denegre
Dan Denegre has been creating independent shorts and branded content for several years, but lately been obsessed with crafting new experiences and storytelling approaches to open viewers hearts and bend their minds. His latest project focuses on telling a story about greed, despair and hope exclusively through movement. His next project, It Waits Below, aims to peel back a few layers of civility and show how frail yet dangerous we become when conspiracies rule our minds.
Director Statement
The short film Vultures captures an idea I had about using movement and no dialog to tell a short, expressive story about global exploitation with the goal of circumventing pretenses and politics. Working with producer Hazel Jennings and choreographer Nicole Von Arx was a dream. The three of us spent time honing essential story beats and marrying movement, framing and coverage. In the end, I hope the viewer walks away a little more unsettled and thoughtful without knowing quite sure why.
