Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
The DOP Max Humphreys and I just began watching slashers films and got really into the idea of making one ourselves. The next step was to look for writers and we got lucky enough to have Haya Abdul-Hadi and Pablo Lopez take interest in it and come up with the idea for The Red Lady from Foley Street.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
I'd say around 4 months.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Sticky and unexpected.
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Obstacles are hard to remember when putting together this film because every time we ran into one, we always could rely on our amazing crew and cast members to get us out of the jam. I'm sure the make-up and gore aspects would've been an obstacle had we not had the most amazing special effects artist ever, Alex Swayn. I'd say since we shot the majority of the film on a built set, the actual construction wasn't easy but with our PD Marika Danilak, our ART DIRECTOR Daniel Koren, and our CONSTRUCTION COORDINATOR Joshua Lee, they made it a great time. Lots of late nights staining wood for us. Plus any other obstacle was overcome purely by the best producer in the world, Camila Cabezas.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
I mean how can you not enjoy peoples reactions to your film? I love seeing people react so strongly positive to something that so many people put so much time and effort into. Just makes me feel really good.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
When I watched Back to the Future for the first time when I was 8.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
Back to the Future
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
This being my second time participating in this festival, I just can't express how much I love it. Bringing together comedy filmmakers in such a way where we can share our work with each other is so awesome. The only thing this festival is missing is an in-person screening. I definitely would make the trip down to LA to go to it and it would be such a great way to meet the other filmmakers behind all of the films.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
Great! Easy as pie.
10. What is your favorite meal?
Chicken and waffles.
11. What is next for you? A new film?
I'm currently in post-production on a few comedy sketches so I'm excited to release those soon and potentially send them to this festival! After that, got to get a feature film made. No matter what, just gotta make it happen.
