A flaming comet crashes into the bay and there follows a spate of gruesome killings in the city. When a second comet arrives and takes up earth orbit, rookie new detective Maguire suddenly finds himself assigned a strange female partner. As they hunt the killer it becomes clear that they are up against a creature not entirely human. And when the hunters become the hunted, it becomes clear that Maguire's partner is not entirely human either.
