Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
In 2022, I began my final year at college/film school. I looked back at the previous 3 years of film school and felt unsatisfied with my experience. I wasn't known for doing anything cool or creative at my school, nobody asked me to be on their sets, and when they did, they only wanted me as an actor, a grip, or to use my truck to tow equipment. I felt unseen and like I wasn't valued amongst my classmates. I decided for my senior thesis, I wanted to prove everyone wrong, and I ended up writing, producing, directing, acting, producing music for, marketing, editing, and publicly premiering this on my own, and the effect was way bigger than I thought it would be. The hype leading up to this being released became well known at my school. I was underestimated and underused for a long time, but in the end I finally proved my value and worth.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
I came up with this in June of 2022. It took me until May of 2023 to complete it.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Intentionally goofy.
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
The biggest obstacle was trying to align everyone's schedules for shooting. That was definitely the hardest part. This was shot during a very busy time during our senior year, with classes and other senior thesis projects being shot. For a while I wasn't sure if it was going to happen, but I put in a lot of effort and made it work.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
I was surprised that people other than my friends and family enjoyed it. I made this specifically for them. It's a college short film, and I knew it wasn't going to be a huge deal when I made it, because who in the public actually cares about college short films? I went into this wanting to prove myself and also wanting to have one last big film school set experience with my closest friends without any stress, and we achieved that. I'm just glad public audiences seem to be enjoying it so far.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
I have no idea. It's all I've ever wanted to do, and I refuse to settle for any other career than the one I want. I think I've always had this passion for as long as I can remember, so I'm going to stick with it and do what I love.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
Raiders of the Lost Ark. It's a classic :)
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
I'm not sure, everything was a great experience for me! My only complaint is that I have to pay money for a trophy I earned. That's not gonna happen, sorry!
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
They've been fine so far! No problems that I can think of.
10. What is your favorite meal?
Steak.
11. What is next for you? A new film?
We're actually working on a sequel to the original short film as well as a cartoon TV show called "Pizza Boy". We have some animation connections at Nickelodeon and Warner Brothers, so we're developing a show for that and creating a pitch deck/show bible.
