THE BALLOON THAT CAN FLY, 1min., USA
Directed by Kimisa H.
For her BFA graduate collection, designer Yuki Xu created unique three-dimensional textiles that boldly pushes the envelope of conventional knitwear. To create these knits, Xu combined shiny, recycled plastic fibers and two-plied contrasting Mouliné with Elastomeric yarns; the synthetic fabrics gives nods to the domestic knitting machine’s automated jacquard punch card mechanism, a foremother to early prototypical computing hardware. Collaborating with director Kimisa H. for this short film, Xu orchestrates a series of playful movements: a visual cacophony of bulbous forms and geometric shapes.
