On Gaby’s birthday, Willa brings her friend Gaby to the nail salon in order to reconnect with her. After much confessions and recollections of the past, their friendship clashes. Sour Patch recalls the story of two high school friends reuniting after their best friend’s death to realize they no longer share the same core values.
Writer & Director’s Statement:
Sour Patch was created by Sara Sue Vallee, Roxane Tremblay-Marcotte and Marie-Christine Roussel in the hope to shed light on a common situation that is rarely portrayed on screen; the clash of a long term friendship when two best friends no longer share the same core values. Inspired by a real life situation, the writer wanted to bring her experience to screen and fictionalize the surrounding event. Her objective was to represent both parties equally throughout the encounter as to avoid blaming one of them for their separation, or involving a third party of the opposite sex. This movie goes beyond the simplistic portrayal of a “girl fight” over a boy or a girl but rather digs into the clash of core values. Losing a long term friend is something you never envision but can be described as losing a part of yourself. In fact, the film acts as a reminder that we should not be afraid to quit relationships that no longer fulfill us, but rather find peace in departing from them
