MY SPECIAL BOY: A FRIDAY THE 13TH FAN FILM, 70min., USA
Directed by James Grim, Braden Timmons
There is no denying that Camp Crystal Lake has a dark history, one that Sean Orton is intent on ignoring. Despite being warned against returning to his childhood Camp, Sean's desire to save his family name proves to be even stronger. Sean rechristens the grounds as Camp Trinity Pointe, and with a group of friends, he attempts to rebuild it into a safe haven with no traces of tragedy left behind. But the evil that still lingers on the Camp grounds is a stark reminder that History always repeats itself, and revenge is a dish best served cold.

Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film? Friday The 13th is one of my favorite horror franchises and unfortunately we haven't seen a Hollywood production since 2009. We aren't the first to make a F13 fan film, but what was very important for me was to go back to the roots of the franchise. Bringing Jason back to camp was essential for the story we wanted to tell.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film? The film was first announced March 13th, 2020. Covid-19 was a big reason for the delay.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!? Jason's back!
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film? Covid was definitely a big factor for the delay. Budget was a huge obstacle as this film's script was originally over 80 pages, but the budget said NO. We went back and kept the core story originally created but condensed it down by over 20 pages. There were some insane kills originally that I can't say as we may use them if a sequel happens.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video? It's always a great feeling when someone can see the hard work that you've put in and give it praise. Very emotional.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films? Since I was around 7 years old. John Carpenter is my inspiration.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life? Halloween, which is funny because I'm making Friday The 13th. Maybe after Halloween it would be Rocky.
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career? So far I've been very satisfied with the experience and have high praise for what you and other festivals are doing.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site? This is my first time using the site so I don't have very much experience with adding film to festivals. So far it's been very exciting and I hope we can make it in many more festivals.
10. What is your favorite meal? Sushi!
11. What is next for you? A new film? I have about five projects currently that I'm attached to. Some as a director and some as a producer/consultant. I'm planning on staying busy for the next few years. I certainly hope to do many more of these with you.
