Set in 1998 San Francisco, a 12 year old Asian American girl named Sydney Li, confronts the monster under her bed only to discover that the mysterious creature is as lost and lonely as she is. Syd hides her new friend from her father, Jack Li but all hell breaks loose when Jack discovers Monster and Sydney uses her new found bravery to face her abusive father.
