MEN IN CARS, 8min., USA
Directed by Molly Vernon
A teenage girl in Texas finds the object of her desire and is willing to do whatever it takes to get it as she becomes the subject of a bloody Bayou City True Crime podcast.
Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
I needed something short and simple to train theatre students to work crew on a film.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
It took a while because after we filmed the movie I had to have major surgery and it was months later before I could get back to the edit.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Quirky / podcast
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Trying to create 4 different color palettes in this short a film. The podcaster, the reenactments, the news anchor, and the found footage.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
I was excited to see that the audience understood my quirky intentions.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
I have worked in theatre my entire life and have been working in films now for over 20 as an AD and Production Manager. Being allowed (and supported) to create my own work these last few years has been a blast!
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
Either Shawshank Redemption, The Godfather, or Psycho
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
Awards for design like costume, hair, makeup, and set. Also, stunt work being recognized would help many filmmakers.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
My experience with FilmFreeway has been successful.
10. What is your favorite meal?
Whatever the caterer is serving that day on set. That's my favorite because I've worked 6 hours and I'm hungry.
11. What is next for you? A new film?
Of course! (below)
Logline:
When senior ladies who are members of a social media 'press on nail group' get into trouble using an online dating app it leads to disastrous, sinister, and rather humorous consequences.
