Director Statement
Lusea is a short film I spent the last year writing, directing, visually developing, and animating. As an aspiring animator and educator, I wanted to create a film that appealed to a younger demographic all the while encouraging inclusivity and acceptance. Lusea is rejected at first, and yet still finds her place across the way; she searched for a singular instance of food, yet ended up with an endless supply.
Lusea reminds me of my younger self, and her relationship with Lorenzo reminds me of my father. When my dad was in high school he worked at a pizza restaurant. After he would tuck me into bed, he would toss my blanket up like a pizza, spin it, and throw it over my head. I wanted to include this memory into the film between characters that reminded me of myself and my father, and that showed the sweet relationship we have.
My film is intended to be a sweet story for kids, yet I hope adults and kids alike will love my story for what it is: a budding friendship between two that complete each other.
