Get to know writer/actor Kristen Vorhoff Wade:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
I had been through the festival circuit with two award-winning feature-length screenplays, but I was frustrated that my work couldn't be shared with anyone but the judges. Determined to produce my next project, I put together this low-budget concept. The screenplay really wrote itself from there. My peers were so excited about the writing that they were eager to support me in making it a reality!
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
About 7 months.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Prepper comedy
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Post-production edit work. Any ideas for improvement were always limited to what shots were actually taken. David Silverman did a phenomenal job getting us to this amazing finished product.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
I was extremely proud. This was my first comedy screenplay and lead role. Objective positive response is a huge confidence builder for someone new to the industry, like myself.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
I've always loved movies, but I didn't think I had a chance of breaking into the business. When Atlanta became such a popular production hub, I auditioned for little roles just to be a part of it. It sparked my interest in writing, and eventually, I decided to pursue story-telling as a career. I would gladly participate in filmmaking in any capacity.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
"Home Alone" probably since we watch it every year at Christmas. I also love "When Harry Met Sally". I can appreciate all genres of film, depending on my mood, so it's hard to nail down just one!
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
I would love an in-person audience and more opportunities to network with other filmmakers! The feedback was a great benefit to participating in your competition so definitely keep that!
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
It's easy and organized, a great tool to efficiently get your film in as many hands as possible and keep track of your successes!
10. What is your favorite meal?
A crawfish boil or seafood gumbo. I'm from New Orleans so that's my jam!
11. What is next for you? A new film?
I have a concept for another movie, but I just completed my first young-adult novel based on my second screenplay. Once that manuscript is submitted for consideration, I'll get back to writing my next film or novel, whichever I feel most excited about!
