Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
Heartbreak. After an intense and passionate love with a person from France, it was left unfinished. Making this film was therapy for me. A creative outlet to let go. There was so much love there so I turned it into a film that means alot to me even personally.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
About 2 years. We only had one day to film! 14 scenes, one day. I was working on the television show The Handmaid's Tale full time and I only had a short window to film. I wrote it as a feature during the covid lockdown when I was forced to deal with my breakup but couldn't film it due to covid restrictions. When the restrictions of covid eased up slightly, one of the actors on The Handmaid's Tale motivated me to just go for it! Make it! It took about 6 months to edit because of busy schedules and out composer creating an original sound design.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
In Between - passion & possibility
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Money, covid and work permits. A very small budget so I had to call in my lovely talented helpful friends and get creative. Covid restrictions were tricky to navigate. We originally had a SAG actor to play Eric who was already working on a popular TV show so we could not get around his work permit that conflicted. This actor was the motivator to make the film so regardless, I will always be grateful to him for pushing me to go for it even though I was juggling a full time film job already.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
My initial reaction was joy and appreciation. It is a beautiful feeling when you hear people relate to the story or characters in their own way. This story is inspired from true events so the reactions are so authentic and I really appreciated hearing them.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
I have been a little dramatic and theatrical since I was a little kid. Putting on shows, playing make believe and watching tons of films. I wanted to capture all the moments and create stories my whole life. From drama school to a degree in film to making silly travel films while I explored the world and then studying filmmaking in LA, I have been obsessed with the inspiring world of filmmaking. It is limitless.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
The Little Mermaid... and Moulin Rouge.
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
Relationships and connections. I would love to meet more filmmakers that are emerging and focused on making films.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
It has been great. It is a very good central hub for information.
10. What is your favorite meal?
Pizza. Hands down.
11. What is next for you? A new film?
Working on the first stages of a new short film. Hoping to film this year. Maybe do a two day shoot instead of one this time...
Still working in the industry on some amazing movies/tv shows until I can make my own full time.
