FURY HAS AN ANTHEM, 7min., USA
Directed by James Newman
A musically fueled martial-artist has to fight off toxic masculinity while searching for new love.
Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
I always wanted to do a fight scene with Tom Sawyer and the why and how had made me expand the film into a more narrative piece and what you see today
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
It was short over the course of two days. Rehearsals for the fight sequence were done in 2 days prior to filming. While writing and planning took about 3 months before then.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Guitar-Fu
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Timing action to the music was a big hurdle I had to overcome
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
It was great to see people latch onto the main character and also root for them. That makes the storytelling much easier
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
A young age of 10
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
The Matrix
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
My biggest concern is just the feedback in general. I loved having a video feedback of the film. Most festivals lack any sort of feedback response even if you are a winner of some sort. Its important to us filmmakers to get some sort of critique or we wont learn and grow.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
Very easy and straight forward
10. What is your favorite meal?
Breakfast
11. What is next for you? A new film?
Working on my career, planning new films to make.
