ECHO, 15min., Israel, Experimental
Directed by Tal Honig
Gaia is a young woman, a bass player. She receives harsh echoes from the masculine world surrounding her. Out of desperation, she runs away. The escape becomes a quest for her own echo to define her.
Director Statement
I worked as a music gig photographer. In Australia- long journeys in a van on tour with a band, I've experienced the pressure created between band members. In addition, in Israel, in a very masculine world, I was always the only woman with the band members, I had experiences of trying to be a part, and on the other hand, I was always "the other". Everything I experienced and absorbed the nuances and characters guided me in writing the film: choosing the artistic truth, success in reaching an audience - all-true for every artist. This is doubly true when it comes to a woman, fighting for her creative and social place in a masculine world, a woman who does not give up and finds her way.
It's a story about relationships but not romantic, a story about insight and not about revenge, a character I would like to see and have never seen before, a film is about universal artistic truth and female struggle.
To make dreams come true you have to confront yourself. Prove to myself that the power lies in me.
