Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
For the answer, I need to elaborate a little. I am a director of commercials by profession. And I think that's a good thing. I like this profession very much. Without it, I would never have been able to get my short film financed. But this profession comes with creative limitations. So I created an opportunity for myself to go beyond those. This film is a collection of no-gos. But it was never the focus to do the opposite of advertising. The Idea just came to me. I wanted to mix dance with a narrative. I wanted to mix genres. It grew from there.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
Freakin 9-11 Month.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Dark Revenge.
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
If you want to make a film that has a certain design, there is a lot to do very quickly. The film spent 9 months of its development time in post-production. There was an insane amount to coordinate and arrange. The voice had to be recorded. VFX, rotoscoping, object tracking, modeling, animation, color grading, sound design, etc. And since I had to produce the post all by myself for cost reasons, it was really exhausting. In the end, the biggest obstacle was myself. But I overcame and there is the film now.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
This has been a very nice idea. I was very happy about it. Especially because the audience likes exactly the same things that I like about it. I am very happy to see that the film is really understood. I haven't experienced any direct live reactions yet, because I haven't been present at any live streaming so far.
I'm afraid it sounds superficial, but I was amazed at how wrong you can be about people just by seeing them. For example, I did´t expect the elders lady to call the off voice witty, considering the off voice was already quite dirty. So it was a great insight, because films are made for the audience. But you hear this far too rarely.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
With a very young age, around 11, but for some reason I lost touch with this idea due my life a couple of times. But I always reconnect and eventually became it.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
I basically grew up with a giant stack of VHS Tapes. I saw in a very young age a lot of films there weren't meant for kids. And I watched a lot.
It´s hard to say which one I watched the most. But properly the making of Star Wars. It was from the 80s. I learned the most about making a movie from this tape.
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
I really think your are very good. Just keep up the good work and the rest will follow.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
It´s convenient. Everything in one place.
10. What is your favorite meal?
If I only knew that.
11. What is next for you? A new film?
Right now, I am collecting Ideas til something strikes me, or it became the right moment for a certain idea to get real. I am enjoying the festival season and I hope some more festivals will like Cornerboy.
