Forty years later, Burton shares his fascinating collection of interviews for the first time.
Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
Burton Rocks: I wanted to thank my parents for giving me the freedom of expression when I was so ill in my youth in hospitals. Today I am hoping this film inspires others.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
BR: Eight months from idea to production
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
BR: Overcoming adversity.
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
BR: Finding old family photographs
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
BR: I was thrilled and humbled that they enjoyed it.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
BR: Ever since I was really young. My cousin was a Hollywood producer.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
BR: I saw the tv show Bonanza in re-runs more than any film because my cousin David Dortort produced it.
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
BR: I just thought it was a great experience so I don’t have suggestions.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
BR: My producer Bob Holtzman worked with film freeway mostly and he enjoyed it.
10. What is your favorite meal?
BR: Breakfast
11. What is next for you? A new film?
BR: Another documentary (science) and an animated project are next for me.
