BLUE STONES, 1min., Sweden, Experimenta;
Directed by Hannah Murphy
Blue Stones is a 1 minute short that gives a voice to the silent inner turmoil that many can relate to and that we are seemingly forced to carry, especially as an adolescent.

Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
- It a quite personal film, a bit of an extension of myself. I wanted to make a film that had some realness, something that not only I could relate to. I wanted to both show visually, audibly and even physically heavy (through carrying a stone everywhere you go) ones thoughts can be. At a time in my life, and it never really goes away, this a minute of being inside my head.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
- The idea had been lurking in my head for quite a bit but not quite a consice script or anything like that. We had an assignment to make a one minute film so I tried to break it down under two weeks and then suddenly I had a finished product. One day of filming and roughly a couple of days to edit.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
- Anxious and blue :)
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
- Kill your darlings, there were many more scenes I had filmed that didnt make the final cut that were my core ideas but in the time frame and pacing it just didnt fit. And also the filming itself! I was anxious yet excited but Im not a trained cinematographer and still learning so I can only thank my little sister (the protagonist) for her patience.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
- Oh god this is exciting! Nerve wrecking but exciting! So many thoughts it feels impossible to put them down into simple words. Ill have make a film about it haha :)
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
- Making plays and directing them from when I was 7 years old, Ive always been a storyteller but media has just seemed to fit into being a tool to extend my interests.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
- Difficult question, I usually like to see a film quite a few times if I really like it. But the film Ive seen most, first one coming to mind is probably Brooklyn (2015) by John Crowley
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
- so far my experiences have been nothing short of great and exciting. Ive really appreciated the feedback, I find that extremely important.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
- Its been great, no problems at all for the time being.
10. What is your favorite meal?
- Fun Question! Favourite food is definitely Chicken Tikka Masala, the one my father makes.
11. What is next for you? A new film?
- In progress! I'm working on a longer short film right now for my ending production at my film school but definitely more films to come when the ideas become more concrete.
