Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
Exploring a space to lament without being consumed with sadness
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
5 years
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Visual poetry
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Stay at home order in California, 3 days before locked shoot dates
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
Finally someone who not only understood the film but can also use actual words to describe their response. So far, the people who liked it were simply crying without being able to say anything. Some friends did not understand it at all and bombarded me with question. Some smart one attempted to give technical notes about sound design or described elements that they noticed without giving the single emotional response.
My second reaction was to notice that only women responded.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
The passion came when I was 8 but the commitment to direct came at 17 when I co-directed my first feature in Madagascar.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
The Lion King. And I shed a tear every time.
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
The experience with your festival has been wonderful so far. Maybe, I would have loved a way to share the feedback video on Instagram. I was also wondering how many films were in session for February experimental festival 2024.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
Very good
10. What is your favorite meal?
The one cooked with love and shared with loved ones.
11. What is next for you? A new film?
Yes, I am working on a short film. It's a fable about two men coming from different walks of life and meeting at their lowest point, on the beach. An existential and introspective piece that is the most personal project I have written so far.
