28m
Matthew Toffolo interviews Aleca King about her documentary film "Love Revolution," which explores the George Floyd protests and Black Lives Matter movements through her personal journey as a flight attendant who turned her COVID-related work disruptions into an opportunity to document the social unrest. Aleca explained how the film concept came to her in a dream during the protests, and she used her travel opportunities as a private flight attendant to interview people in different cities, including New York and Minneapolis, where she met George Floyd's roommate. She discussed her background working for NBA teams, including the Lakers; her experience contracting COVID before it was widely known; and her artistic approach to filming raw, unfiltered interviews on her phone. The conversation also covered her current projects, including two completed hurricane documentaries set in Jamaica, her music career, and her reflections on balancing her privileged position as a private flight attendant with her mission to document social justice movements.
