Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
Basically, two things: the fundamental need to tell a story; that story, and a genuine spur for challenging people. I was dying to know how the main actor (Dan Vulc) would get along during this process, considering that he's been working as a TV producer for decades now, though he is a professional trained actor... I felt he just needed this encounter in his life journey, after many years of pause.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
A couple of months, or so; out of which about 6 weeks were used for the rehearsals.
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
Intriguing. Funny.
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
Keeping calm on set, despite the nature and dimensions of the provocations... :)
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
Eagerness, joy and relief.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
When I was a student, 2-nd year of study, at the University for Theater and Film Bucharest, the Theater Directing Faculty. At the time, I realised I love to be on set as an... actress. Then, it took me a number of years effectively on set, working as Acting coach, and tens of theater productions directed (and written) to get the guts to try it myself, as a filmmaker.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
Seen? Or liked?
I usually do not see films twice, except the very special / peculiar ones. I think Casablanca (d. Michael Curtiz) is the production I watched more than 3 times, back in the 80s.
In terms of 'like', well... I adore lots of movies, and I love many film directors; it depends on the biographical moment we talk about. For instance, now, I'm strongly into Wes Andersen... On the other hand, David Lynch remains my 'forever green' passion..., while Lars von Trier will always be the crazy lover to seduce me every time he 'shows up'.
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
I know this suggestion could be expensive and it should be offered free of charge to the beneficiaries, but, trust me, it can be a fantastic 'give hope' booster: online meetings between participants (creators; the artistic team) on the one hand, and film experts who are involved in these festivals, on the other hand. Free discussions, or thematic webinars, or simple zoom meetings where people share their thoughts about the cinema issues today, considering a preset subject/ matter to start with; a subject chosen by the festival's organizers.
...And, perhaps, where the host is a well known personality in the domain.
...Aren't we all dreaming of zoom-talking directly to Naomi Watts, or Johnny Depp?! :)))
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
It was easy going, with an admirable communication level, and totally mind refreshing, due to this particularity of 'audience feedback videos' of the festival.
10. What is your favorite meal?
Cheese... or cheese!?!?! 'Ay, there's the rub'...
11. What is next for you? A new film?
I do hope from all my heart to be able to shoot MARZIPAN next year... (a feature; a dark comedy about the system messing up with people's minds big time)
