Machines and robots take care of almost all human activities. The world is automated, and meaningful individual employment isn't possible anymore. A workforce simply is no longer needed – except for some monitoring activities – and humans are doomed to carry out completely insignificant, absurd and repetitive work. The monotony of everyday life blends with suppressed desires resulting in a conflicting existence between reality and fiction.

Get to know the filmmaker:

1. What motivated you to make this film?

AI (artificial intelligence) will drastically change our future of work and so-called bullshit jobs will increase. At the end of a limitless AI evolution, the AI will at least allow us to do some illusory activities. Illustrating this development in a short animation film was my driving force.

2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?

I worked on this film every afternoon (open-ended) 14 months in total …

3. How would you describe your film in two words!?

AI rules

4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?

The audio editing. I have tinnitus in both ears and sometimes I could only define sound effects and music clips based on the visual wave forms in the audio program.

5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?

I know that this film is well-liked by audiences (almost worldwide), but every time I feel that the are not just producing nonsense (which already has happened) but are also trying to make meaningful statements (both negative and/or positive) I feel satisfied to have triggered a process in other people.

6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?

The year is 2013. I owned a photo agency. My customers handled the image requests and purchases through our online shop and I had plenty of time. The few inquiries by phone/email completed no longer my daily life and I was looking for something to fill my breaks. I drew cartoons, tried 3D modeling and when I played with an animation program, the penny dropped. And I knew: that would be it! And it was!

7. What film have you seen the most in your life?

Blow up by Antonioni.

8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?

Announcing selections/finalists/ and/or winners and/or short reviews in social media is a very powerful tool right in the hands of the author. Most of the time you aren’t able to attend the festivals and interact with critics and the audience. But social media provides a small compensation.

9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?

Fulfills my requirements more or less optimally.

10. What is your favorite meal?

Depends where I am: by the sea ONLY sea food in all varieties, otherwise Zurcher Geschnetzeltes mit Roesti (german for "sliced meat with shallow fried potatoes Zurich style"

11. What is next for you? A new film?

Due to an acute kidney collapse I have to interrupt my current film work and have to find a new balance between the dialysis days and the leftovers of time.
But yes, I hope to be able to continue working on the film soon. Strong motivation is building up again.
