Get to know the filmmaker:
1. What motivated you to make this film?
I've gotten sick of seeing sex workers being portrayed as rich and glamorous or all abused and desperate. The truth is, while both ends of the spectrum certainly exist, many online sex workers are middle class (predominantly young women) who have a knack for social media and want extra cash. We wanted to make a love letter to the mundane and funny parts of the job while still acknowledging the dangerous and stigmas that still plague the industry.
2. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film?
The scripts were written in 2019 and production was set for April 2020. Yep. Obviously, that was delayed a full year, and we are so happy to see the light at the end of the postproduction tunnel!
3. How would you describe your film in two words!?
irreverent, messy
4. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film?
I think most of us working in the last couple years can easily say that COVID-19 was a massive hurtle for production. Aside from that, we had a number of smaller complications that we adapted to with the help of my incredible cast and crew.
5. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video?
It's always both exciting and terrifying to put your project in front of others - but ultimately it's worth it.
6. When did you realize that you wanted to make films?
I'd started up in theatre and eventually film just became a natural progression of needing a different medium to tell certain stories.
7. What film have you seen the most in your life?
Either "A Knight's Tale" or "My Cousin Vinny." Both get a viewing every few months.
8. What other elements of the festival experience can we and other festivals implement to satisfy you and help you further your filmmaking career?
I think connecting with others is really what drives art, so having a component that allows filmmakers and audience to share a space, whether through feedback or festivals or talkbacks is really crucial.
9. You submitted to the festival via FilmFreeway. How has your experiences been working on the festival platform site?
It's pretty straightforward and easy to use!
10. What is your favorite meal?
I love a simple thing done right... like a good slice of NY style pizza!
11. What is next for you? A new film?
I'm currently in the middle of grieving multiple losses and trying to find the right outlet for my creativity. I've been channeling a lot of storytelling into D&D and am excited to develop a new short film when some of my collaborators return to the area late this summer.
