VILLAGE OF TWO BRIDGES, Marisa Torre.
There was once a village of two bridges
and the legend came to be
of strength and rebuilding one's own integrity
The closer bridge to town reserved only for the Queen
and the other further down for the work days in between
Every day it suffered beyond its intended wear
Every day it was abused without concern or care
it was dirty and beat-up
a shame of shambles all could see
as it took the farmers wares
to the castle by the sea.
For years it served its purpose
and when abused beyond its wear
was required time to mend it
to restore it
But the Queen's own bridge stood stately
gently used and never stressed
in garland and in lanterns
decorated and impressed.
Until one day
the storm did rise up from the heavens and the sea
a greater storm than ever anyone could think would be
the only refuge was the castle for the villagers to survive
with their cattle and their children keep their families alive.
A gust of wind
a wash of waves
was all it took to render
the Queen's own bridge asunder
with nothing left to save.
But the working bridge that was once of shambles and of shame
withheld the storm to save the kingdom's state and sovereign name.
Sometimes strength is met by the worst we sometimes see
Sometimes strength is from rebuilding our own integrity.
