Born in Michigan in 1959, Raimi became involved in filmmaking in childhood with his friend Bruce Campbell, with whom he made his first horror short while in college.
By 1981 they made the cult classic The Evil Dead, which launched Raimi’s career as a bona-fide director. His cult recognition allowed for more mainstream opportunities such as 1990’s Darkman, and more intellectual work such as A Simple Plan (1998), all enjoying success.
Given the reigns to the Spiderman franchise in 2002, Sam has since been the preeminent box-office powerhouse in the genres of fantasy and horror.
