Renny Harlin: Born in Finland in 1959, Harlin’s career began in the realm of advertising, from which he pursued screenwriting and directing in America.
His first mainstream success was Nightmare on Elm Street 4 (1988), garnering Harlin studio trust for 1990’s Die Hard sequel, another hit; as was ‘93’s Cliffhanger, which was also nominated for three technical Oscars.
Renny proceeded to win ‘Razzies’ instead, for such films as Cutthroat Island and The Long Kiss Goodnight (starring then-wife Geena Davis) - financial and critical flops from which his reputation has yet to recover.
