Paw Prints, by George Estremera.
We haven't been quite the same
Since we set you free from your pain
You had to scratch on death's door
So you wouldn't suffer anymore On our hearts you left indelible paw prints
By gracing us with your furry presence
Have you really sailed away to a place
Where you've got plenty of playmates?
As you sit in the angel's lap,
That as much as we miss you, you miss us
When I least expect it, I feel the sting
That sneaks up on me since your parting
The sweet song of your purring stays
On the soundtrack to our days
Twelve years are now just ashes on the table
We move forward as such as we're able Gazing toward a liquid horizon
I lift up my teary eyes and
Long to know if we'll see each other
When I lie down for eternal slumber
Our fur baby gave us so much
Joy, unconditional love and such
You never had to beg to be fed
Even though that exactly what you did Like it or not, the road forks whenever
But it brings fellow pet mourners together
You were such a life infused fur ball
That befriended and comforted us all
The place is now empty
But for a collage of memories
The light that went out in your eyes still
Lights us up and always will.
