Born in Canada in 1926, Jewison demonstrated a childhood aptitude for performing arts.
His early professional work was in television, where he garnered a strong reputation for directing which by the early 1960s lead to his first opportunity in film. Jewison’s first true success was 1965’s The Cincinnati Kid, which he followed with continuously praised work in a variety of genres.
Norman has been nominated for seven Oscars for films such as Fiddler on the Roof, and Moonstruck, and holds the Order of Canada.
