Born in France in 1963, Gondry pursued study in art, and was later part of a French pop band for which he directed videos.
This gained him recognition for more directing in the mainstream music and advertising industries. Gondry’s first feature film was 2001’s Human Nature, followed by Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (’04), for which Michel won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
He was helming 2011’s The Green Hornet, but dropped out due to creative conflict.
