Born in Slovakia in 1946, Reitman’s family immigrated to Canada in 1951, where he pursued filmmaking following university.
Working as a producer, Reitman hit upon success with 1978’s Animal House, followed by assuming the director’s chair for 1979’s Meatballs.
From there he continuously directed and produced a string of comedy hits, most of which are now considered classics of the genre. Of late, Ivan has produced some of the most successful and memorable comedies of the decade, such as Old School (2003) and I Love You, Man (2009).
