Born in Paris on May 21, 1983, Cécile Mavet divided her childhood between Paris and New-York City. She got her background in literature in 2001, then spent two years of literary prep school(Khâgne) at Lycée Condorcet (Paris) where she studied literature, philosophy and languages.
She then specialized in Anglo-American civilization and literature, at Paris- Sorbonne, which allowed her, in 2004, the year when she gets her M.A. degree, to spend a semester in Vassar College (Poughkeepsie, NY, USA), as French language fellow. In parallel, she attended a « women studies » program - throughwhich she deepens her thoughts on women and the specifics of women identity- as well as movie direction courses, which allowed her to direct her first short film, The Dispute – a very loose adaptation of the play by Marivaux.
