Born in Chicago in 1927, early on Fosse toured as a dancer, later moving to Hollywood to be “the next Fred Astaire”. He appeared in films in the ‘50s, but never achieved leading-man status.
Shifting to theatre, Fosse became renowned as a choreographer, enduringly influential with his iconic jazz style.
The second part of his Hollywood career was as director, helming five films; Bob won the Best Director Oscar for 1972’s Cabaret. Bob Fosse died in 1987.
